Hair extensions by Sarah James
Types of hair extensions and techniques of installation

It is a recent phenomenon that offers the men and women of this world a taste of metamorphosis. The growing trends of the last few decades have allowed fashion to break away from the formalities of the single style and have favored the emergence of popular elegance. So, today everyone is free to have fun with all shapes and to give his silhouette any other nature. The hair is a determining element of this game of transformations. You can change the color, the movement, shorten, lengthen or thicken it. Such is the particularity of the installation of hair extensions which come to deceive the laws of time.

Types of hair extensions
There are two types of hair extensions: the synthetic extension and the natural extension.

Today, more than ever, the techniques of hair extensions are more effective. Contrary to the wig whose superficialities are often guessed, the hair extensions, worked by the professional hairdresser, excel in the art of illusion. Thus, short hair becomes longer, thin hair becomes thicker, and dull hair becomes brighter.

Natural hair extensions

Natural hair extensions are made from human hair and have all the aesthetic and biological qualities of human hair. In this way, natural hair extensions blend perfectly with real hair, and are easier to model, brush and maintain than synthetic hair extensions. On average, natural hair extensions last for one year. Finally, natural hair extensions offer their recipients the luxuries of the usual treatments of real hair, such as straightening, perming and coloring.

It is for these reasons that Sarah James, concerned with professional service and quality work, proudly sticks to natural hair extensions.

Synthetic hair extensions

The synthetic extension consists in the use of hair made from synthetic fibers. This technique, which can seduce the carriers, shows many disadvantages. Indeed, here, the hair addition has a limited lifespan (up to 3 months on average) and requires a consequent level of maintenance on a daily basis because synthetic hair tends to get tangled and to favor the creation of knots. Moreover, the appearance of the synthetic addition, sometimes convincing, cannot reproduce the naturalness of real hair.

The techniques of installation
Today, there are three very effective techniques for hair extensions: keratin extensions, tape-in hair extensions, and clip-in extensions.

With over 30 years of experience in hair styling, Sarah James has mastered the art of applying your hair extensions.

The application of keratin hair extensions

This technique, certainly the most known, consists in the application of hair strands fixed with keratin, a protein with adhesive properties which melts under heat and which proves to be particularly effective in the long-lasting fixation of hair. For a complete application of the additions, 100 to 200 strands of hair should be applied and 2 to 4 hours of work should be allowed for the fixation. Depending on the type of hair and the quality of the product, keratin hair extensions can last up to 1 year.

The installation of hair additions by adhesive strips

This process is unique in that it offers a simple and quick hair extension. It consists of adhesive strips of a width of 5cm (at most), on which several strands of natural hair are aligned. There are about 35 to 45 strands for a whole head. To ensure discretion, the hair extension tape is placed on the midline of the head, above the temples. Note that the adhesive strips are water resistant and last an average of 2 to 3 months and are reusable. Clip-in hair extensions are also ideal for occasional needs such as weddings or other special events.

Natural clip-in extensions

Clip-in hair extensions are the quickest way to add length to your hair and enhance its effects for the occasion. In this, the natural hair extension is fixed with a system of clips that are attached directly to the real hair. Thus, it is very easy to put on and take off. Note however that this technique of applying natural hair additions is not intended for long term wear, and is reserved for short periods of use.
